I know it’s not very romantic. But I dated a marine for 3 years and I’ve been there.  Base pay for a low-ranking marine is worse than working at McDonnalds.  Young marines rationalize being ready because of those perks, and because all of their buddies are doing it—you see lots 19-year-olds with wedding bands and babies on a military base.  My ex had no idea what marriage really means (legally, financially, and ability to be unselfish and compromise-wise) and was clearly not ready for the commitment, but he was convinced that he was and that I should be too just because we loved each other and nothing else matters.

So sad. So true. But really, I’d like to find some guy friends. I used to think I had close guy friends, but it all fell apart because they wanted to be more than friends. Sooo…assuming I don’t have poor judgment, how am I supposed to avoid the message that heterosexual men secretly and openly want to sleep with me? Is there a website for this? Because really, I’d like to be able to spend time with guys my in my age bracket and talk about video games, porn, and everything else that I can’t talk about with most of my girl friends. OK, and that we me stereotyping that only all guys like video games and porn.
